MEET THE
CHALLENGE
WELCOME
The Volunteer Cadet Corps (VCC) is a MOD sponsored youth organisation and part of the Royal Navy's Cadet Forces. We were originally formed in 1901 to gainfully occupy the spare time of sailors' and marines' children. Although similar to our colleagues in the Sea Cadet Corps and Combined Cadet Force, the VCC is unique in being solely based in a number of Naval establishments where logistical and training support is provided.
The VCC is open to young people between the ages of 9 and 18, and is managed and run by unpaid volunteer staff. The aim of the VCC is to help develop young people into dependable and reliable members of society by using the traditions, standards and ethos of the Royal Navy and Royal Marines.

Our Volunteer Cadet Corps
Royal Naval Cadets
The Royal Naval Volunteer Cadet Corps, an integral part of the VCC, nurtures leadership and discipline among its cadets through diverse activities and structured training, culminating in ceremonial parades and public displays. Our motto "Meet the Challenge" encapsulates the ethos and values of our Royal Naval Cadets.
Royal Marines Cadets
The Royal Marines Volunteer Cadet Corps, part of the wider Royal Marines Cadets family, cultivates resilience and readiness among its members, spanning various locations and engaging in rigorous training, parades, and public events. Our motto "Be Worthy" fosters a sense of honor and duty within its cadets.
GET QUALLIFIED
The Young Leader Award aims to help learners develop leadership skills such as organisation, communication and teamwork, as well as helping to build confidence and self-esteem as they take on responsibility of leading their peers and younger children.
Cadets can enrol with us as early as 13 on a BTEC Level 1, progressing to a BTEC Level 2 in Teamwork and Personal Development in the Community.
Our Adult Volunteers can benefit from the ILM level 3 qualification in Leadership and Management. It is an internationally recognised qualification for line managers, team leaders and supervisors.
The City & Guilds Professional Recognition Awards in Leadership and Management (PRAs) are regulated qualifications which represent a vocational route to higher education.
The NCSC provide short courses designed to introduce the younger generation to the world of cyber security. These courses are called Trailblazers, Adventurers, Defenders, Futures and Advanced.
