Lympstone Division RMVCC stands proudly among the newer units within the Volunteer Cadet Corps, situated at the esteemed Commando Training Centre Royal Marines (CTCRM) in Lympstone, near Exeter. This strategic location not only grants access to exceptional facilities but also places our cadets under the guidance of experienced instructing staff, ensuring an enriching and supportive environment.
Our cadets at Lympstone are privileged to utilise the vast array of facilities available at CTCRM. The gymnasium echoes with the energy of enthusiastic young cadets, both boys and girls, as they are put through their paces by Royal Marines physical training instructors. Their physical prowess is so commendable that they've conducted public displays and earned qualifications as cadet PTIs, a testament to their dedication and skill.
Woodbury Common, a sprawling heathland adjacent to CTCRM, serves as a training ground for our cadets, mirroring the experiences of commando recruits in their basic training. Under the watchful eye of adults, our cadets delve into field craft, learning tactical maneuvers, field cooking, and personal hygiene, regardless of the elements. The Lympstone Division proudly holds the Cautley Cup, a testament to their excellence within the RMVCC.
With Dartmoor just a short drive away, our cadets often venture to this iconic terrain, soaking in training opportunities amidst occasional sunny days. While often seen donning their green attire during training, they proudly display their impeccable blue dress uniforms during ceremonial parades, showcasing their commitment and discipline.
Similar to other RMVCC Divisions, our recruits undergo a comprehensive 4 to 5-month basic training program. From mastering drill techniques, map reading, and navigation to acquiring knowledge in first aid, field craft, and Corps history, this training culminates in a challenging weekend exercise on 'the common.' Here, their field skills are assessed, leading to a Pass Out parade celebrated among proud family and friends. The top recruit earns the prestigious Belle Isle Award, recognizing their outstanding dedication and proficiency.
